Rick Ross - Teflon Don

User Rating: / 7
PoorBest

Teflon Don is the fourth album by Rick Ross. This is his most ambitious album because the hype built up around the album has been quite large.

The album is relatively short at only 11 tracks, but they pack a powerful punch. "I'm Not A Star" is the opening song and features production by Justice League, who have been working with Ross for most of his career. The uptempo, snare heavy and hi-hat infused song is the type of song that will be banged in countless trunks throughout hoods in the South.

Rick recruits some heavy hitters for this project. One of those is Jay-Z who joins him on "Free Mason" and Kanye West who is featured on "Live Fast, Die Young". The latter of these is the better song. Both of them are somewhat of a let down though.

Former Goodie Mob member Cee-Lo Green is on "Tears Of Joy", this one was pretty close to being a decent song, but in the end fell short due to the beat being somewhat incomplete.

ORDER IT T.I., Jadakiss & Erykah Badu are on the 3rd version of "Maybach Music", another song produced by Justice League. The beat sets an environment similar to one that you might see in "The Mack". It's a real laid back, yet hardcore beat. Tip's verse is tops.

Another laid back song is "Super High" which was the first single from the album. Ne-Yo handles the hook and production was handled by Clark Kent. This is a very solid song, but its not great.

Diddy is everywhere we see Rick Ross lately, he and Trey Songz join the Boss on "No. 1", this song could've and should've been left off of the album, it doesnt go well with the theme of Teflon Don at all.

Lex Luger produced 2 songs on this album including "M.C. Hammer" with Gucci Mane and "B.M.F." Both of these songs are two of the best on the album. The bass goes super hard on "M.C. Hammer" and the lyrics offered by Rick Ross might be some of the nicest on the album. "Blowin Money Fast" was his 2nd single released and received alot of critical acclaim and press. It was also one of the most remixed songs on the album. Artists such as Young Jeezy made their own version of the somewhat controversial song.

"Aston Martin Music" was one of the more anticipated tracks on Teflon Don, solely because of the appearance of Drake on the track. Chrisette Michele sings the chorus and holds her own. Drake doesnt actually do any rapping on the song, but leans more to his R&B side, which was a disappointment.

The album closes out with "All The Money In The World". Raphael Saadiq is featured on this Olympicks production. The beat may be one of the best on the whole album, but the hook is horrible and quite a let down.

If you grab the album on iTunes, you get the bonus track "Audio Meth" which is a collabo with Raekwon. Produced by The Runners, this song is nice but nothing great.

Overall this album is not his best, but it's worth grabbing if you are a Rick Ross fan.
